Cultural-historical monuments
Njegos’s Monument, the first in the world, was set up in Trebinje in 1934. It was designed by architect Brasovan and the statue is work of sculptor Toma Rosandic. Opposite to Njegos’s Monument, there is Jovan Ducic’s monument. Nearby, at the entrance of the park there are statues of lions as well as the statue of Jelena Anzujska on the old town walls, presented by Ducic to his hometown. In the centre of the town there are monuments from the First World War and the Second World War and Monument to the defenders of Trebinje 1991-1996.
Kulturno-istorijski spomenici
Spomenik Njegošu, prvi u svijetu, podignut je u Trebinju 1934. godine. Projektovao ga je arhitekta Brašovan, a statua je djelo kipara Tome Rosandića. Preko puta Njegoševog spomenika nalazi se spomenik Jovanu Dučiću, u neposrednoj blizini su figure lavova na ulasku u gradski park, kao i figura Jelene Anžujske na zidinama starog grada, koje su poklon Dučića rodnom gradu. U centru grada se nalaze i spomenici iz I i II svjetskog rata, te Spomenik braniocima Trebinja 1991-1996.
The Perovica (Arslanagica) Bridge
The Arslanagica Bridge was built by Mehmed-pasa Sokolovic in 1574, during Turkish occupation. It has been his pious endowment to his son who was killed in fights with Venetians. When Turks were pushed out of Herceg Novi in 1687, many Turkish families from this town moved to Trebinje. Among them there was Arslan-aga. He got possessions in the east from Trebinje: on Zubci, Necvjece and Jasen, as well as the right to charge bridge-toll across the bridge on the Trebisnjica River. Since then, the bridge was named the Arslanagica Bridge after him. By building hydroelectric system on the Trebisnjica River, the bridge finished under water of storage lake in 1965. At the request of Institute for protection of monuments of culture, the bridge has been dismantled and moved down the river in 1966, when vacation of the accumulation took place. The new location of the Arslanagica Bridge has been between settlement Gradina (on the right shore of the river) and settlement Police (on the left shore). Since 1993, the bridge has also been called the Perovica Bridge.
Perovića (Arslanagića) most
Arslanagića most je kao zadužbinu za svog poginulog sina u borbi sa Mlečanima izgradio Mehmed-paša Sokolović 1574. godine, za vrijeme turske okupacije. Kada su Turci 1687. godine potisnuti iz Herceg Novog, mnoge turske porodice su se iz ovog grada doselile u Trebinje. Među njima je bio i izvjesni Arslan-aga. On je dobio posjede istočno od Trebinja: na Zupcima, Necvjeću i Jasenu, te pravo da naplaćuje mostarinu preko mosta na Trebišnjici. Po njemu se, od tada, most naziva Arslanagića most. Izgradnjom hidroenergetskog sistema na Trebišnjici Arslanagića most se našao 1965. godine pod vodom akumulacionog jezera. Po zahtjevu Zavoda za zaštitu spomenika kulture most je demontiran i prenesen nizvodno 1966. godine prilikom pražnjenja akumulacije. Nova lokacija Arslanagića mosta je između naselja Gradina (na desnoj obali rijeke) i naselja Police (na lijevoj obali). Od 1993. most se naziva i Perovića most.
Minster of St. Transfiguration (the end of the 19th century)
The Orthodox Church of St Transfiguration has been built since 1888 until 1908. It is located in the centre of the town. Well-known Montenegrin artist Marko Gregovic, who was helped by Atanasije Popovic, made iconostasis in this church. Next to the Church of St Transfiguration, an eparchy with library has been built. Choir of St Vasilije Ostroski also function as part of this temple.
Saborni hram Svetog Preobraženja (kraj XIX vijeka)
Saborna crkva Preobraženja Gospodnjeg građena je od 1888. do 1908. godine. Nalazi se u centru grada. Ikonostas u crkvi Sv. Preobraženja radio je poznati crnogorski umjetnik Marko Gregović, a pomagao mu je Atanasije Popović. Pored crkve izgrađen je eparhijski dom sa bibliotekom. U sastavu hrama djeluje hor Svetog Vasilija Ostroškog.
The Catholic Cathedral of nativity of the Virgin Mary (the end of the 19th century)
Thousand years of existence of trebinjsko-mrkanske bishopric was celebrated in 1984. The bishopric was first mentioned in the bull of Benedict the 8th (1012 – 1024) that is published on the 27th September of 1022. During its long existence, the bishopric was passing through different difficulties that were caused by political and social factors. On the 31st may of 1984, the small church in honor of Virgin Mary was proclaimed cathedral.
Katolička katedrala rođenja Blažene Djevice Marije(kraj XIX vijeka)
Godine 1984. proslavljena je hiljadugodišnjica postojanja trebinjsko-mrkanske biskupije, čiji prvi spomen nalazimo u buli Benedikta VIII(1012–1024), izdatoj 27. septembra 1022. godine. Tokom svog dugog postojanja biskupija je prolazila kroz razne teškoće čiji su uzroci bili politički i društveni faktori. Godine 1984, 31. maja, mala crkva u čast rođenja Blažene djevice Marije u Trebinju proglašena je katedralom.
The Osman-pasa’s Mosque
This is the mosque located in the Old Town (Kastel), not far away from the main (west) gate and town’s walls. It is built of ashlars and covered with quadrilateral roof, as imitation of cupola under etemit. Along the right wall is raised stone octagon minaret, 16 meters high, and it was one of the most beautiful minarets in Herzegovina. It was built in 1726 by orders of Osman-pasa Resulbegovic. Builders were masters from Dubrovnik. There are elements of Mediterranean architecture in its structure. It is believed to be the most spacious mosque in Herzegovina. It was demolished during the last war. Foundation stone for restoration was laid in 2001, on May 05. The mosque was inaugurated in 2005, on July 15. According to dimensions and materials which were used in its building, present Osman-pasa’s mosque is authentic to the one which was demolished.
Osaman-pašina džamija
Ova je džamija locirana u Starom gradu (Kastelu), nedaleko od glavne (zapadne) kapije i gradskih bedema. Građena je od tesanog kamena i pokrivena četverostrešnjim krovom u imitaciji kupole pod eternitom. Uz desni zid podignuta je kamena munara oktogonalnog oblika, visoka 16. metara i bila je jedna od najljepših u Hercegovini. Sagrađena je 1726. godine i vakuf (zadužbina) je Osman-paše Resulbegovića. Graditelji su bili dubrovački majstori. U njezinoj gradnji ima elemenata mediteranske arhitekture. Slovi kao najprostranija džamija u Hercegovini. Prije rata bila je kulturni spomenik pod zaštitom države. Osman-paša je kao prateće objekte podigao u blizini džamije još mekdeb i medresu, koji su bili prve prosvjetne ustanove u Trebinju. Za vrijeme poslednjeg rata džamija je srušena. Kamen temeljac za obnavljanje je postavljen 5. maja 2001. Džamija je svečano otvorena 15. jula 2005. godine. Današnja Osman-pašina džamija je autentična onoj koja je srušena i po dimenzijama i materijalima koji su korišteni u njezinoj gradnji.
Mosque Sultan Ahmed
This is the mosque located in the Old Town (Kastel), not far away from the main (west) gate and town’s walls. It is built of ashlars and covered with quadrilateral roof, as imitation of cupola under etemit. Along the right wall is raised stone octagon minaret, 12 meters high. It is square in shape and without any architectural value. It was built by masons from Dubrovnik. In its construction has elements of Mediterranean architecture.
Sultan Ahmedova (Careva) ili stara (Atik) džamija
Ova džamija nalazi se u Starom gradu „Kastel“, nedaleko od desne obale rijeke Trebišnjice. Građena je od tesanog kamena i pokrivena četverostrešnjim krovom pod pločom. Uz desni zid prigrađena joj je kamena munara oktogonalnog oblika visoka oko 12 metara. Kvadratnog je oblika i bez ikakvih arhitektonskih vrijednosti. Podigao ju je Osman-paša Resulbegović na ime sultana Ahmeda III 1719. godine.Gradili su je dubrovački majstori. U njezinoj gradnji ima elemenata mediteranske arhitekture. Za vrijeme poslednjeg rata džamija je srušena. Kamen temeljac za obnavljanje postavljen je 2011. godine, a svečano je otvorena u avgustu 2014. godine. Tokom obnove pronađen je prag prvobitne džamije koji se danas čuva u staklu unutar nje. Kraj džamije se nalazi mezarje sa tri nišana.
Church of St Vasilije Tvrdoski and Ostroski in village Mrkonjici Village Mrkonjici is placed at the east side of Popovo Polje on road Trebinje – Ljubinje. In this village on the 28th of December, 1610 holy man Vasilije Ostroski was born. His baptismal name was Stojan, his mother’s name Anastasija and his father’s name Peter Jovanovic. On red-letter day of St Vasilije Tvrdoski and miracle-worker Ostroski, the 12th may of 1998, in Village Mrkonjici in Popovo Polje, the temple consecrated to St Vasilije was made sacred. The temple has been raised on the foundations of the native house of the great holy man and placed at the right side of the road when you come from the direction of Trebinje. At the left side of the road, there is St Nikolaj’s temple in which the saint was baptized. Next to the temple, there is graveyard where St Ana, St Vasilije’s mother, has rested.
Crkva Sv. Vasilija Tvrdoškog i Ostroškog u selu Mrkonjići
Selo Mrkonjići nalazi se na istočnoj strani Popovog polja na putu Trebinje – Ljubinje. U ovom selu se 28. decembra 1610. godine rodio sveti otac Vasilije Ostroški, krštenim imenom Stojan, od majke Anastasije i oca Petra Jovanovića. Na praznik Svetog Vasilija Tvrdoškog i Ostroškog Čudotvorca, 12. maja 1998. godine u selu Mrkonjićima u Popovu polju osvećen je hram posvećen Svetom Vasiliju. Hram je podignut na temeljima rodne kuće velikog božjeg ugodnika i nalazi se na desnoj strani puta kada se dolazi iz pravca Trebinja. Na lijevoj strani puta nalazi se hram Sv. Nikolaja u kome je svetitelj kršten. Pored hrama je groblje u kome počiva i Sveta Ana, majka Svetog Vasilija.
